Eric and Linette Darrow and Rick and Lauri Darrow would like to take this time to let you know the situation at the speedway. As we are sure many of you have heard we will not be running the track for the 2008 race season. Weisz's will be back, whether they run it or lease it out will be up to them.
Jim Holland of the Rapid City Journal misreported some of the facts of the court hearing. He reported that we were $840,000.00 behind on contract payments. It is true that we are behind on our payments, but the figure that was reported is the amount that the Weisz's are claiming that we owe them on the entire contract, not the past due amount. Since the newspaper and others involved feel the need to expose our personal finanacial business, we need to set the record straight on the rumors that we have not paid the Weisz's any money over the last six years, the truth is that we paid Weisz's approximately $500,000.00 on the property, and because the racetrack did not produce enough income to make all those payments, the Darrow's put over $100,000.00 of their personal money into it to keep the track open and operational every Friday night. Those figures were also verified at the court hearing, but of course not reported in the newspaper. It makes a much better story to make the Darrow's look bad then to tell the truth. No one even the Weisz's would allow us to stay on the property for six years if we had not paid them any money.
Another misreported item in the paper was that the Weisz's were given the property back, we still remain as the equitable owners of the property, the only thing that was given to the Weisz's was the operation of the business for the 2008 race season. This was a decision by us to allow them to do that, we felt it was in the best intrest of the race community to do that. We also did not feel compelled to stick any more money into a business that has certain individuals that choose to bad mouth us and spread rumors. With that being said, we acknowledge those of you who supported us and helped us out, we can not thank you enough, it was because of all of you that made it worth while.
We were given until September 15, 2008 to complete the 2 sales that we have on the property. The reason the property has not been sold yet is due to the platting process. The property needs to be platted and seperated in order to have two deeds. This is a timely process that involves engineers and the city. Our broker has worked hard and closely with the city over the last year to get the issues the property faces (drainage and access) worked out. The engineers have completed their initial work and it has been subbmitted to the city, it will go to the planning commission first then to the city council. We feel confident that the plat will be approved and we can move immediately to close on the sales.
We wish the best to the drivers in 2008 and great racing for the spectators. It will take more than new management to have a successful year it will take teamwork and cooperation from everyone involved. Once again best of luck to all. |
